Rose & Rose - Valerian Shorts

Every summer I look for the piece that does the quiet work — the one you reach for without thinking, that goes with everything already in the wardrobe. This year it's the Valerian short.

Cut from 100% lightweight cotton in a fine stripe, it's scattered with multicoloured cross-stitch floral embroidery — the sort of hand-worked detail Rose & Rose have built their name on. The scalloped hems are what make it. A short 4-inch inseam keeps it easy on warm days, and the elasticated waist means you simply pull it on and go. Side pockets, because a short without pockets isn't much use to anyone.
